Nepal crashed out from the group stage of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Cup Twenty20 tournament after their game against hosts Hong Kong was abandoned for a second time in the tournament at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong, on Saturday. The match was abandoned owing to a wet outfield following a downpour.
Nepal’s last fixture against India ‘A’ also faced a similar fate on Thursday in Group ‘A’ comprised of four teams. Nepal had lost their opening match by nine runs against Pakistan on Tuesday.
Two washed out games and a defeat meant Nepal finished third in the four-team group with an equal two points along with Hong Kong. But, Nepal finished third due to a better net run rate over Hong Kong, who had lost their opener against India ‘A’ by nine runs. Only the top two sides of the group progress into the semi-final.
The other match of the group involving India ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’ were also washed out without a ball being bowled. India ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’ progressed into the semi-finals as the group winner and runners-up with four points each from an equal three matches. But India secured the top finish by virtue of a better run rate.
Bangladesh ‘A’ and Sri Lanka ‘A’ secured semi-final berths from Group B as the winner and runners-up, with four points each. The United Arab Emirates and Malaysia finished third and fourth with three points and one point, respectively.
India ‘A’ will meet Sri Lanka ‘A’ and Bangladesh ‘A’ will meet Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the semi-finals on Monday.
