Biratnagar Super Kings have named West Indies batsman Andre McCarthy as their captain and Nepal national team skipper Rohit Paudel as their vice-captain for the upcoming Nepal T20 League, the country’s first ever official franchise tournament.
McCarthy made his international bow—his only T20I game—against Pakistan in April 2018 in Karachi where he could only make five runs.
His other two appearances for the West Indies national side came in a 2-0 ODI series loss against Bangladesh in Mirpur in January last year. His highest ODI score—12 runs—came in a six-wicket defeat by Bangladesh in the first ODI.
But the 35-year-old middle order batsman has left his mark in the Regional Super50 Cup, ending first and second on Jamaica’s run charts in two consecutive seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Biratnagar’s marquee player Paudel—who led Nepal to T20I and ODI series wins in Kenya in August and September and the Rhinos’ first home ODI series victory against the United Arab Emirates in November—will remain a deputy.
Biratnagar also announced the signing of five other foreign cricketers including Zimbabwe all rounder Sikander Raza.
Nepal T20 is set to kick off at TU cricket ground on December 23.
Biratnagar start their campaign against Lumbini All Stars on December 24.
