The match between Nepal and Namibia ended in no result on Friday after their fixture of the Namibia-Nepal-Scotland Tri Series of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 was called off due to rain.
Namibia were chasing a target of 198 and were 4-0 in 0.4 overs when rain forced a delay at the United Cricket Club Ground in Windhoek. The game was called off after the rain continued with both sides sharing a point each.
Earlier, being sent in to bat first after losing the toss, Gyanendra Malla scored a half century to guide Nepal to a moderate total in 49.4 overs.
Malla cracked a career high 75 off 95 balls that featured seven boundaries and two sixes. Malla had reached his previous ODI highest score only last month when he played 73-ball 64 in a series clinching victory against the United Arab Emirates at TU cricket ground.
It was also his sixth career half century in ODI cricket. The former captain also became the first Nepali cricketer to hit six ODI half centuries.
Openers Aasif Sheikh (20) and Arjun Saud (18) shared a 31-run opening stand to give Nepal an average start to their innings.
Malla then hit a record fifty to put Nepal in a commanding position at 3-151 in the 40th over.
But after Karl Birkenstock (2-14) had Aarif Sheikh (23) caught by Lo-handre Louwrens in the 39.2 overs, the Rhinos lost wickets at regular intervals.
Dipendra Singh Airee departed for a nought, Kushal Bhurtel made 13, Gulshan Jha returned to pavilion adding 18, Sompal Kami fell for 10 and Sagar Dhakal for zero as Nepal lost seven wickets for just 46 runs to struggle to 197 in 49.5 overs.
Tangeni Lungameni returned 3-42 for Namibia.
The outcome means Nepal are still languishing in the sixth position in the seven-team table with 18 points after playing 21 matches.
Namibia are fourth with 33 points from 28 matches while Scotland are second with 42 points from 29 matches.
Oman lead the standings with 44 points after playing all the 36 games.
The top three sides at the end of the League 2 cycle, in which each team will play 36 games, will qualify for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe next year while the bottom four sides will enter the qualifier playoffs.
