Nepal announce final squad for Namibia Tri-series
Nepal open the Tri-series—that also involves Scotland—against Namibia on December 2.Sports Bureau
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Sunday named a 14-man squad for the upcoming Namibia-Nepal-Scotland Tri-series of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2.
Bhim Sharki, Kamal Singh Airee and Aadil Alam have been dropped from a squad that clinched the bilateral three-match One-Day International Series against the United Arab Emirates 2-1 at the TU cricket ground on Friday. It was Nepal’s first ODI series victory on the home ground.
Sharki, Kamal and Alam, all, did not start in a single match of the UAE’s tour of Nepal.
Arjun Saud, who made a dream ODI debut smashing a half-century in the first match against the UAE, has been retained.
Saud failed to keep up that form in the second and third ODI—dismissed for a nought and nine runs respectively—but the teen opener will have another shot to shine with the bat again in Windhoek, where Nepal will begin the Tri-series against hosts Namibia on December 2.
Harishankar Sah will also keep his place despite a nightmare debut campaign. Sah scored just 8 runs in the first ODI and was benched in the second. The middle-order started in the third ODI but did not make any significant contributions.
Fast bowler Nandan Yadav has received his first call-up in the national team. Pacer Yadav, who plays for Bagmati Province, is also handy with the bat at lower order.
The Namibia Triangular Series takes place from December 1 to 8.
Nepal are sixth in the seven-team standings with 17 points from 20 matches. Namibia are fourth with 28 points from 23 matches. Scotland are second with 40 points after playing 28 matches.
Oman lead the standings with 44 points after playing all 36 games.
The top three sides at the end of the League 2 cycle, in which each team will play 36 games, will qualify for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe next year while the bottom four sides will enter the Qualifier playoffs.
