Nepal lose against Sri Lanka, crash out of U-19 Asia Cup

Nepal suffered second defeat in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup going down against Sri Lanka by 60 runs to crash out of the group stage at the Sharjah cricket stadium in the UAE on Sunday.
Sri Lankan opener Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Sadisha Rajapaksa scored a century each as they posted a mammoth total of 322-4 after they chose to bat first in the 50-over game. Chasing the target, Nepal were bowled out for 262 runs in 47.5 overs.
Nepal lost to Bangladesh by 154 runs in their opening match on Friday in the four-group. Following the outcome, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh secured semi-final spots with two wins each while Nepal and Kuwait, both out from the group stage, are yet to open their account. The two sides will play in the last group match on Tuesday.
Opener Wickramasinghe scored 111 runs off 126 balls and Rajapaksa cracked 119-ball 131. Wickramasinghe smashed eight boundaries and two sixes before he was caught by Bibek Magar off Md Aadil Alam in the 43rd over. Rajapaksa was also bowled by Alam in the penultimate over.
Wickramasinghe and Rajapaksa, however, played a key role in Sri Lanka's big total as they shared a 223-run partnership for the second wicket. Captain Dunith Wellaglage contributed an unbeaten 34 runs while opener Shevon Daniel, the first to fall, was out for 17 runs. Sri Lanka also got 23 extra runs.
Apart from Alam's two wickets, Dev Khanal and Bibek Yadav also pocketed one wicket each. Alam conceded 46 runs in his nine overs of bowling.
Chasing the big total, openers Santosh Karki scored 34 runs and captain Dev Khanal contributed 28 runs, putting up a 59-run stand for the first wicket before the former was dismissed. Karki hit four fences and a six in his 34-ball knock. Khanal also hit four boundaries facing 45 deliveries.
Captain Arjun was the top scorer for Nepal scoring 64 off 80 that included three fences and two sixes. Basir Ahamad and Bibek Yadav were other major contributors hitting 43 runs and 46 runs. Ahamad hit three fences and two sixes facing 51 balls while Yadav cracked three fours and sixes each in his quickfire knock of 29 balls. Gulshan Jha contributed 13 runs for Nepal who also got extra 13 runs.
Sri Lankan bowler Matheesha Pathirana and Raveen de Silva grabbed three wickets apiece. Pathirana gave away 49 runs in his 8.5 bowling overs while De Silva gave away 35 runs in his seven-over spell.
