Province 1 thrashed Lumbini Province by 67 runs to advance into the semi-finals of the Prime Minister Cup Women’s National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament as group A winners on Tuesday.
Both the teams had already qualified for the last four following their big wins in their previous games but it was Province 1 who asserted their dominance in the clash of the top two teams in the group.
Kajal Shrestha scored 40 runs facing 48 deliveries and Apsari Begam smacked an unbeaten 44 off 37 balls to lead Province 1 to a 114-3 total after electing to bat first.
But it was their captain Rubina Chhetri who shone at the Fapla International Cricket Ground ripping through the Lumbini batting line returning the match figures of 3 for 4 as Lumbini, led by teenager Saraswati Ganga Magar, were restricted to 47-9.
The national team captain also contributed 15 runs facing 31 balls before her opening partnership with Shrestha was broken by Madhu DC at the end of the ninth over.
Nary Thapa and Saraswati Pun also claimed one wicket each for Lumbini.
In reply, Lumbini batters fell cheaply, with not a single batter managing to achieve a double-digit figure. Pun (9) and Nitu Bhandari (9) were their top scorers.
Alisha Khadiya ended the match with figures of 2-5 while Sangita Rai took one wicket giving away 16 runs.
In the dead rubber match of group A, Bagmati Province defeated Karnali Province by 79 runs to exit the tournament with a consolation win.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, openers Kanchan Shrestha’s patient 47 not out off 61 balls and Helisha Gurung’s 25 off 30 deliveries helped Bagmati reach the total of 130-6.
Bagmati captain Asmina Bajracharya contributed 16 runs.
Divya Dhami (3-16) was the pick of the bowlers for Karnali.
In the run chase, Karnali batters could not handle the Bagmati bowling with opener and captain Aayusha Tandon leaving for a duck in the first over bowled by Bipisha Shahi, followed by Anshu Shakya (0) in the next over that left Karnali scratching their heads.
Shahi took three wickets giving away eight runs that also included the scalps of Dhami caught by Suman Khatiwada and Anjila Chhetri trapped in front.
Laxmi Rimal contributed 16 runs facing 35 deliveries before she was sent to the pavilion by Bidari, who also claimed the wickets of Dikshya Puri and Anju Gurung.
None of the other batters of Karnali were able to reach the double-digit figure.
Karnali bowed out of the competition without a win.
On Wednesday, the Armed Police Force team will meet Sudurpaschim Province and Gandaki Province will face Province 2 in the group B matches.
