Hackathon at Pulchowk
The Hackathon, one of the many competitions at the Locus technical festival, organised by the students of Pulchowk Campus Institute of Engineering, concluded on Februrary 22“The variety of programmes created was great. They [the participants] came up with more than what we had imagined,” said Bibek Shrestha and Sashwat Mehta, coordina
tors of the Hackathon. Some of the noteworthy programmes were aimed at spreading awareness on sensitive issues such as teenage problems while some were focused on helping in the conservations of the less spoken languages in the Nepali community. The theme of Social Development was chosen because the organisers believed that there was a lot that could be done, using technology, to address social issues.
Among the teams that competed, Semantic Creation won the title prize for creating an android and web-based application called DonateAid. The software, one of the very first in Nepal, provides a platform for donations. The app allows users to create a profile for their cause after validating themselves through various verification systems. It then showcases different means of donation methods ranging from specifically chosen addresses to online payment. The team is currently working on expanding their app for Apple devices.
