Masterclass on Michael Chekhov technique
Twenty-five actors from various local theatres will participate in the workshop.Post Report
With the support of Russian House, Kamal Pokhari, a Masterclass with Joerg Andrees on the Michael Chekhov technique is being organised from March 30 to April 8 by School Theatre Nepal. Michael Chekhov was the nephew of popular Russian writer Anton Chekhov.
Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School, Valley View School and Narrative Nepal are also joining as supporting partners of the event, in which 25 actors from various local theatres will participate. The organisers reveal that the main objective of this workshop is to spread Chekhov’s method of acting. The method is followed by many theatre practitioners in a handful of countries in Europe and Asia. The workshop targets actors and mentors and will be held at Valley View School in Mid-Baneshwar, Kathmandu.
The director of the Michael Chekhov International Academy, Andrees, will work directly with the participants during the workshop. He has travelled to various countries to provide training in the Chekhov method. Before coming to Nepal, he hosted a workshop in Moscow, Russia.
Since last year, School Theater Nepal has been working to establish this method in Nepal. Around this time last year, American actress and stuntwoman Lisa Dalton conducted classes on the Michael Chekhov technique.
