Kami Rita Sherpa receives grand welcome in Kathmandu after record 32nd Everest summit
Veteran climber extends his own world record for most Everest ascents, strengthening his legacy in mountaineering history.

Veteran mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa was given a grand welcome in Kathmandu on Friday after successfully scaling Mount Everest for a record 32nd time, extending his own world record.

According to expedition officials, the 56-year-old reached the summit at 10:12 am on May 17. The feat further strengthens his position as the climber with the highest number of Everest ascents in history.
He had earlier reached the summit on May 27, 2025. Born in Thame, Solukhumbu, Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 at the age of 24.

Since then, he has scaled several 8,000-metre peaks, including K2, Manaslu and Lhotse, a total of 45 times. He has also summited Everest up to five times in a single season.
Widely known as the “Everest Man”, Kami Rita continues to extend his own records with each climbing season.
