Teachers continue protest in Kathmandu demanding School Education Act
Wearing black masks, thousands of teachers from across country march in capital.
Post Report
Thousands of teachers gathered from across the country staged a protest in Kathmandu on Monday, demanding the immediate enactment of the School Education Act. Wearing black masks, the teachers marched through the streets of the capital in a symbolic protest.
The protest was organised by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, the umbrella body of school teachers, which has also declared an educational strike from Monday. The federation has instructed teachers nationwide to shut down schools and suspend all duties, including preparing examination results.
A large number of teachers were seen filling the streets from Babarmahal to New Baneshwar, holding banners and chanting slogans.
Thousands of teachers, who have descended in Kathmandu, held a whistle rally on Sunday. Before starting the mass show on Wednesday last week, the federation had held a series of sit-ins at the party offices of different political forces and educational authorities.
