More than 400,000 people have left Kathmandu for their homes to celebrate the Dashain festival.
According to the Valley Traffic Police Office’s records, on average, 100,000 people have been departing from the Valley daily since Ghatasthapana on Sunday, the first day of the two-week festival.
Approximately 465,977 people have already left, said Senior Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, further adding that the numbers are expected to continue to rise until the day of Dashami, which falls on October 23 this year.
“The number of travellers is significant on all four major exit points of the Valley on Friday. Traffic is high in those areas, while vehicular movement inside the Valley is comparatively sparse,” Bhatta said.
