The Department of Revenue Investigation has seized a huge quantity of gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport area.
The precious metal had passed undetected through the customs on Wednesday evening.
According to the department, around 80 to 100 kilograms of the yellow metal was confiscated in the course of a raid based on a tip-off.
Director General of the Department Nabaraj Dhungana said that three persons were arrested on the suspicion of their involvement in smuggling the gold.
The gold was suspected to have been brought from Hong Kong. Other details of the incident are unclear as an investigation is underway, he added.
