The authorities have decided to remove the concrete materials used in the re-construction of Ranipokhari from the site and carry out rebuilding works as per the archaeological requirement.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had begun constructing the quake-damaged Ranipokhari, one of the famous heritages in the Capital city, by using concrete materials which had attracted widespread criticism from the locals as well as the Department of Archaeology.
After objection from the locals and experts, the re-construction works on the Ranipokhari have been halted for the past few months. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and Department of Archaeology chief Bhesh Narayan Dahal discussed to resume the construction works and agreed not to use concrete materials in the project.
Minister Adhikari urged the metropolis to complete the project by respecting the public sentiments and archaeological importance. Mayor Shakya also committed to forwarding the construction project by meeting the archaeological importance and beauty. He said the KMC did not intend to neglect the archaeological importance as reported in the media.
