KMC to reinstate Ranjana script

The Ranjana script, which was removed from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)’s official letter pad after the implementation of new local level structure—will be reinstated.
There was criticism from several quarters following the removal the Newari script from the metropolis’ letter pad and signboard, with calls growing for reinstating the script which reflects Kathmandu Valley’s tradition, culture and identity.
A meeting of the KMC board has decided to continue using the Ranjana script on letter pad and signboard after demands started pouring in from different sides, Chandramani Bhattarai, media official at the metropolis said.
A group of locals under the coordination of Naresh Bir Shakya had even staged demonstrations demanding that the Ranjana script be reinstated. The script has been registered as Nepal’s traditional script since the time it the country’s membership at the United Nations.
