Clash ensues in Kailali after passenger bus kills woman

A woman died after being hit by a bus at Lamki Chowk in Kailali on the East-West Highway on Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the 22-year-old victim, a resident of Lamkichuha Municipality, was struck by a passenger bus en route to Tikapur from Dhangadi.
Tensions ran high as relatives and locals took to the streets and resorted to vandalism following the incident. The demonstrators placed the body of the deceased in front of the Area Police Office and burnt tires demanding action against the bus driver.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhusudan Neupane, the mob set fire to a traffic post at Lamki Chowk and pelted stones at the area police office.
Police lobbed tear gas to disperse the unruly mob.
Several people including police personnel and protesters have sustained injuries following the clash, informed police.
One of the injured has been taken to a hospital in Kohalpur for treatment.
Police have seized the bus and taken its driver into custody. Further investigation into the matter is underway, said police.
