A team of technicians from China recently conducted a field study at Chitlang in Thaha Municipality Ward No. 9, Makwanpur, to construct Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology.
According to Rajendradhoj Joshi, chairman of the university’s development committee, a nine-member team surveyed the land in the Takatar area.
On February 2019, a Cabinet meeting endorsed the formation order, after which a committee was formed to set the foundation of Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology in Chitlang. The government has allocated 740 ropanis of land for the establishment of the university.
Buddha Ratna Manandhar, a local, said he hopes that the establishment of the university will push the development of the village. “Villagers are expecting roads and other infrastructures to be built after the university comes into operation,” Manandhar said.
The university will be constructed with the financial assistance of the Chinese government. The Nepal government has set an agenda to request funds for the university from the Chinese President Xi Jinping during his upcoming Nepal visit.
“The Chinese team arrived in Chitlang to conduct a field study before the visit of the Chinese president,” Joshi said, adding that officials from the Chinese government and Nepal government are doing their homework for the project.
In October 2018, the Cabinet had authorised the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to draft a bill necessary for setting up the university. After its establishment, the university will be the first one to cater purely to the field of science and technology.
