A tractor was swept away and several roads were blocked in Dhankuta district after heavy rainfall triggered floods and landslides, police said on Monday.
The tractor parked near the Bishranti River in Mulghat, ward 9 of Dhankuta Municipality, was carried about 50 metres by floodwaters on Sunday night. Deputy Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Khanal said a police team using an excavator retrieved the vehicle.
Mudslides also hit the Mulghat-Triveni road section, halting vehicle movement. According to police, four tipper trucks were trapped in the debris. Landslides were also reported in two other parts of the same road.
Police and Armed Police Force personnel, with the help of excavators, began clearing operations early Monday. With rainfall easing, road clearance is expected by the afternoon, said Armed Police Inspector Tek Bahadur Katuwal.
The road links Dhankuta to neighbouring Bhojpur and Udayapur districts. Its closure has affected movement through Chimchuwa, Saptintar, Gopalpur, Ghangru, and Triveni. Traffic has remained halted since 6pm on Sunday.
