An artwork of Mount Everest created at an altitude of 5,000 metres has been presented to the Embassy of Nepal in Berlin, marking an intersection of art and diplomacy.
The painting, by German artist duo Magdalena Wallbaum and Klaus R. Gerhold, was handed over during a meeting at the embassy on January 29. The artists, known collectively as MK Kunst am Limit, had produced the original work in November 2025 under harsh conditions near Everest.
A refined version of the artwork, enhanced with gold leaf to symbolise the mountain’s cultural significance, has been placed in the embassy’s reception hall.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. and Head of Mission Sagar Prasad Phuyal received the artists and discussed Everest’s cultural importance and prospects for future artistic cooperation between Nepal and Germany. First Secretary Ranjan Yadav was also present.
The artists said they were grateful for the recognition and the opportunity to strengthen cultural ties through art.
