Santosh Kunwar announces candidacy for NRNA Australia presidency
Makes public a two-year action plan focused on investment, transparency, and community development.
Post Report
Santosh Kunwar has officially announced his candidacy for President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia chapter ahead of the July 26 elections.
In a message shared through his social media platforms, Kunwar reflected on his over 10-year-long involvement with NRNA Australia. He highlighted his contributions towards the organisation’s sustainable development, transparency, and institutional strengthening.
Kunwar began his journey within NRNA as the secretary of the State Coordination Council. He went on to serve as state coordinator (2017–19), ICC member (2019–21), Oceania regional deputy coordinator (2021–23), and currently holds the position of general secretary.
“In this journey with NRNA, I’ve consistently worked to make the organisation more technology-friendly, transparent in financial matters, and well-coordinated with government agencies,” Kunwar wrote. He praised the current executive committee under President Anil Pokharel for elevating the institution’s profile and stated that he provided fair and committed support as general secretary.
As a presidential candidate, Kunwar announced that he has developed a special two-year action plan and promised to share detailed programmes soon.
Kunwar’s core agendas and election commitments focus on economic engagement, institutional strengthening, and inclusive community development.
He has pledged to promote diaspora investment in Nepal through NRNA forums, trade delegations, and advocacy for better investment policies. He aims to secure $2 million in state and federal grants by engaging with Australian government departments and establishing a dedicated grants and partnerships taskforce to support impactful projects. Strengthening multicultural initiatives across states, completing the Nepali Multicultural Centre, and mobilising funding from government and diaspora donors are part of his vision.
