A 15-year-old girl heading to a Rajbiraj-based school was raped near Koshi irrigation canal in Bishnupur Rural Municipality, Saptari, on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Basnet, the victim fractured her left hand while retaliating against the perpetrator.

The incident happened at around 5:45am while the girl was heading to the campus on her bicycle. Akalesh Kumar Mandal was arrested after the victim lodged a police complaint against him.

Detailed investigation is underway into the case, said police.
