Singer Prakash Timilsina was found dead at his residence in ward 18 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Saturday night. He was 37.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Lalitpur, doctors at Patan Hospital declared the singer dead.
“The singer was immediately taken to the hospital after he was found unconscious, but the doctors declared him to be brought dead,” said SSP Subedi. “The cause of death will be determined through the autopsy.”
Timilsina, originally from Prakashpur in Sunsari, gained prominence through the TV reality show ‘Nepali Tara’. He had been singing since childhood and released his debut album, ‘Divya Drishti’, in 2009. The song ‘Priya Timro Siudoma...’ from his album ‘Aarti 66’ earned him widespread recognition and won him the Kalika and Annapurna Awards. In 2011, Timilsina released the album ‘Prakash’, and the song ‘Timrai Haathko Sindur Launchhu...’ became a chartbuster.
His life was as dramatic as any movie. When Prakash was just one year old, a flood in the Koshi River swept away not only their home but also his entire family. He was found entangled in a fisherman’s net. The fisherman, who was a friend of his father, discovered the child while pulling up his net, expecting to have caught a big fish.
In a 2014 interview with Kantipur Daily, he said, “I lost both my eyes in the flood, so I don’t know what the world looks like.”
