Man arrested with around 14 kg gold from Kathmandu airport

A man has been arrested from the Tribhuvan International Airport with around 14 kg of gold.
Chandra Ghale of Gorkha was arrested by customs officials on Thursday night soon after he landed in Kathmandu on a flydubai flight.
According to Sobhakant Paudel, director general of the Department of Customs, further investigation is being conducted regarding his background and the real owner of the gold.
Ghale had attached the gold to his chest and also concealed it in his shoes, Paudel said.
Director General Paudel said the gold recovered from him will be weighed on Friday and its quality will be tested.
According to him, Ghale’s call details and people in contact with him are being monitored.
Officials had stepped up surveillance at the airport after being tipped off that Ghale will land in Kathmandu on Wednesday. But he arrived on Thursday night.
Ghale was among the passengers disembarking at the last and was arrested soon after he got off from the aircraft.
