Parties field mayoral candidates in Birgunj

The Nepali Congress fielded its district President Ajaya Dwivedi for the mayoral post. The CPN-UML picked Basaruddin Ansari, owner of the National Medical College, and Sophia Acharya to run for the post of mayor and deputy mayor in the metropolis.
The Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has chosen Rajeshman Singh, general secretary of the party, to run for mayoral post.
The CPN (Maoist Centre) has announced 31-year-old Rahabar Ansari as the mayoral candidate. The Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal decided to field Bijaya Sarawagi and Pinki Yadav for the two posts.
However, the Nepal Loktantrik Forum and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have yet to decide their candidates. The NLF is planning to field Bimal Shreewastav, who was dissatisfied with the RJP-N, as the mayoral candidate.
Meanwhile, the District Election Office said all the preparations have been over in the district. The District Police Office said security has been heightened in the bordering areas. Superintendent of Police Sudip Giri said 2,375 security personnel will be mobilised in the district.
There are 167 polling stations in Parsa. Of them, 73 are listed as “highly sensitive” with 79 polling stations listed as “sensitive”, said SP Giri.
