2nd batch of aid reaches only 103 families in Kavre
Only 103 earthquake-affected families have received the second instalment of the housing aid in Kavre district so far.Only 103 earthquake-affected families have received the second instalment of the housing aid in Kavre district so far.
The aid money was distributed through Caritas Nepal, a non-profit organisation, at Balthali and Chandenimandan.
The Urban Development and Building Construction Division Office had verified 1,573 families in the district as the qualified recipients of the aid from among 3,400 applicants. Astalal Suwal, the chief engineer of the office, said 59 families of Balthali and 44 families of Chandenimandan received the second instalment of the housing aid through Caritas.
Aid distribution process in other parts of the district is being delayed due to lack of human resources to inspect the under-construction houses, he added. Around Rs 995 million meant to be distributed as the housing aid in Kavre remains unused in the bank account of the District Coordination Committee.
The government has decided to provide the second instalment of the housing aid to only those families who have adhered to the building code and safety standards while constructing homes.
More than 4,700 quake-hit families in Kavre are constructing new houses after receiving the first instalment of the aid. And to get the second batch of the aid, the houses must pass the verification test conducted by the engineers mobilised by the concerned government agencies.
So all earthquake-affected families who began constructing houses with the first tranche of the government aid may not qualify for the second instalment of the aid.
