The Sanghiya Gathabandhan including the Madhesi alliance has issued a statement against the main opposition CPN-UML.
A joint statement released by Gathabandhan coordinator Upendra Yadav after a meeting convened at the headquarters of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum on Thursday strongly lashed out at the CPN-UML for what it called ‘racist statement’ that would fuel communal tension and social discord.
“The racist statements issued by CPN-UML in the name of protesting against the constitution amendment proposal would push the nation towards division, weaken national unity,” read the statement. “We strongly criticise the regressive activities of UML.”
The Gathabandhan has accused the UML of putting at stake the achievements such as federalism, republic, secularism and inclusive democracy.
Prior to this, the alliance of Madhes-based parties had issued a strong statement against the CPN-UML. The Gathabandhan has also refused to take the ownership of the constitution amendment bill registered at the Legislature-Parliament. However, the Gathabandhan has said that it would accept the amendment proposal if it was revised so as to address the demands of Madhesi and indigenous groups.
