A joint survey team from the two countries repaired border pillars 544/1 to 589. The team has started to repair main, subsidiary and minor pillars in the border areas.
A Nepali team has been repairing odd-numbered pillars whereas its Indian counterpart has been repairing even-numbered pillars.
Nirmal Kumar Acharya, team leader from the Nepali side, said they have already repaired and coloured 50 border pillars so far. “The work will continue till May,” said Acharya, adding that the team will also study whether there is any encroachment along the border.
A seven-member team from each country has been mobilised in the border areas to repair border pillars.
Hari Singh is leading the team from the Indian side.
Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Khadka said the joint team will also inspect and report about missing and uprooted pillars.
There are 45 main pillars, 213 subsidiary pillars and 274 minor pillars in Kapilvastu district. Out of 532 pillars, 314 have been swept away, 43 have been damaged and 177 have to be constructed.
Security forces belonging to Armed Police Force (Nepal) and Shasastra Seema Bal (India) have heightened regular surveillance in the border area.
