The Legislature-Parliament meeting was put off on Sunday after lawmakers of Madhes-centric parties obstructed the House meeting.
House Speaker Onsari Gharti announced that the meeting has been postponed for 11 am on Monday, after Madiesi lawmakers picketed the rostrum.
The House meeting was scheduled to hold discussions on the Amendment Bill. This is the first time the Parliament Secretariat incorporated the amendment proposal floated by the erstwhile Sushil Koirala-led government to address the concerns of the agitating Madhesi parties about the new constitution.
Also today, lawmakers of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Prem Suwal and Anuradha Thapa Magar chanted slogans against Indian blockade at Nepal-India border.
It has been learnt that the ruling CPN-UML, which had initially stood against the amendment proposals registered by the Sushil Koirala-led government, agreed to support the move following India’s indication that the border blockade could be lifted if the bill is endorsed.
The Amendment Bill was registered on October 8.
