‘Advantage taken’ in name of victims
Locals posing to be victims of the recent floods and landslides in the district have been pressing concerned authorities to rehabilitate them at the earliest.

A source said that although only 93 families at Purandhara VDC have been displaced by the disaster this year, more than 550 families from 13 villages including Kaptane, Simalkuna, Jila, Malai, Dhobaghat, Kirauni, Banchare, Bagkhola, Jaleni, Batase, Batule and Gauje staged a sit-in in front of
the VDC office on Saturday demanding rehabilitation.
Chandra Bahadur Randu, coordinator of the Flood Victim Struggle Committee, said that many people have joined the protest carried out by flood victims in a bid to get their demands addressed.
He said that the people joining the protest are families who are at risk of disaster and are affected by the Banke National Park (BNP).
“We all are not flood victims. We have joined the protest to get our demands addressed to resettle us to safety,” said a protester.
“We cannot say when disaster will strike. Some of us are also affected by the BNP. Thus, we need rehabilitation,” said Biphali Kumal of Purandhara VDC-9.
Earlier, a programme to distribute relief to flood and landslide victims had been halted due to an issue over the fake disaster victims.
Chief District Officer Dinesh Bhattarai claimed that people are taking advantage in the name of the disaster-affected.
“As a result, genuine flood victims have not got their hands on the relief materials. We are collecting data of the genuine disaster victims and have agreed not to address the fake-disaster victims at this point of time,” he said.
