Veteran industrialist Shrestha passes away
Veteran industrialist Indra Bhakta Shrestha passed away on Saturday. He was 89.
Shrestha was former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC).
He established the NE Group in 1972. His venture into business began with textile and commodity trade.
He took the group to new heights with investments in the manufacturing and the industrial sector.
Shrestha entered the NCC in 2014 BS and served the organisation in various capacities. He was appointed as an advisor on Import-Export Advisory Board of the government in 2016 BS and had also served as a member of the Food Advisory Committee.
Besides, he served at the Nepal Industrial Development Board from 2020-2028 BS and was appointed as a senate member of Tribhuvan University. He also served Nepal Rastra Bank, Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation as board director.
NCC said in a statement Shrestha had played a crucial role in various government bodies as a private sector representative. Shrestha had received the Gorkha Dakshin Bahu 4th, and various other honours in different times
for his contribution to the society. “NCC expresses a deep sorrow on his demise,” the chambers’ statement read. The funeral was held on Saturday evening.
In a separate statement, Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet expressed his deepest sorrow over the passing away of Shrestha. Basnet said Shrestha’s death is a great loss to the business sector.
“On behalf of the Industry Ministry, I remember him for his contribution and expresses sincerest condolences to his family,” he said in the statement.
