More than 700 of freed Kamaiyas (bonded labourers) in Dang district have been provided with land plots to build their homes. According to the Freed Kamaiya Society, Dang, 705 out of 1,426 former Kamaiyas have received land ownership papers as part of their rehabilitation programme. Hari Chandra Chaudhari, the society’s president, said there were still over 3,000 freed Kamaiyas in the district who did not have the state-issued identity cards and lands. (RSS)
