Time to shift up a gear: Dahal
Co-chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed that the government needed to ‘shift up a gear’ for building momentum on development activities.Co-chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed that the government needed to ‘shift up a gear’ for building momentum on development activities.
Dahal’s statement comes at a time when all sections of the society have been questioning the poor performance of the ‘stable’ government led by Co-chair KP Sharma Oli with a two-thirds majority.
“The government is stuck in first gear and has failed to pick up speed. Now, we will change the gear,” Dahal said, while addressing a function organised to exchange greetings for the upcoming festivals at party office in Perisdanda on Saturday.
Dahal admitted that the ruling NCP has been dogged by the internal conflict, but claimed it would be resolved soon. “We don’t have big issues in the party. And the mergers of lower committees and sister wings will be completed within a few days,” Dahal said.
He, however, said the factional political within the party must end as such practices would affect the progress of the party. “Ending factional politics and unify the party as per the people’s wish has been our major challenge. We must do it,” he said.
Dahal claimed that the two chairmen, after returning from their recent overseas trips, had started brainstorming on the issues including the performance of the government and the conflict within the party.
“We have started discussing about the government’s performance. A few problems have surfaced in the government. We’ve got to resolve them and strengthen the government,” he said.
Earlier in the day, speaking at a separate function at Gorkha, the former PM reiterated that there had been attempts to weaken the Oli government.
“Several attempts were made to foil the political change, unity of communist parties and unity in the party leadership,” Dahal said, adding that the unity and change have been the major headache for all the reactionary forces of the world. Therefore, he said, minor mistakes of the government have been blown out of proportion.
