Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) Nepal handed over a newly constructed VDC building in Thokarpa in Sindhupalchok to the local authority on Thursday.

Jun Sakuma, chief representative of JICA Nepal, handed over the first public facility built under Jica’s public facility reconstruction efforts after the Gorkha earthquake to the officials  of Thokarpa VDC office on Thursday.

The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 9 million and was commissioned within eight months since its inception, according to Jica Nepal.

The VDC building with three office rooms, one lobby room, one training space, one pantry, a storage room and two toilets was reconstructed by Jica under its “Project on Rehabilitation and Recovery from Nepal Earthquake”, Jica said in a press statement.

The old VDC building was destroyed in the earthquake last year. The newly constructed building has also incorporated facilities for differently-abled people.

Two other buildings including offices of District Agricultural Development Office and Chautara Women and Children’s Office in Sindhupalchok are under construction and will be ready for use by April 2017.
