Birgunj to make e-rickshaw driver’s licence mandatory
Narayani Transportation Management Office has called on all e-rickshaw drivers in Birgunj to sign up for driving testFollowing repeated complaints of reckless driving and traffic rule violations by electric rickshaw drivers, authorities are planning to make driving licence test mandatory for all e-rickshaw drivers in Birgunj.
To that end, the Narayani Transportation Management Office has called on all e-rickshaw drivers in Birgunj Sub-metropolis to sign up for
the driving licence test which will take place after the Chhath festival. There are around 800 e-rickshaws operating in Birgunj.
Rabindra Bhatta, of Parsa District Traffic Police Office, said the licence system will not only compel the e-rickshaw drivers to learn the traffic rules but also discourage children from driving.
As the government has announced 100 percent excise duty waiver on electric vehicles in this year’s budget, import of e-rickshaw has increased in recent times.
