Nepal’s national Covid-19 tally climbed to 117,996 with 2,638 new infections reported on Wednesday. The number of active cases stands at 36,367 as 80,954 people have so far made successful recovery—2,174 of them in the past 24 hours.

The country also recorded 12 more Covid-19-related fatalities taking the death toll to 675.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,403 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of them, 996 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 305 in Lalitpur and 102 in Bhaktapur.

As of Wednesday, the number of cases in the Valley has reached 47,601. A total of 45,103 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders on August 19.

The country has witnessed 100,002 infections and 635 deaths since July 22. A total of 17,994 cases and 40 Covid-19-related deaths were registered until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.

As of Wednesday, 1,221,038 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.

“A total of 13,947 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said during a regular press briefing.

In the past 24 hours, 485 new infections were reported in Province 1, 167 in Province 2, and 1,594 in Bagmati Province.

Similarly, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces reported 179, 113, 25 and 75 new cases respectively.

“Eleven districts—Morang, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Dang, Banke, Rupandehi and Surkhet—have more than 500 active cases,” Gautam said. “Manang district does not have any active cases.”

“As of Wednesday, 305 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 70 patients—56 in Bagmati, eight in Province 1, three in Sudurpaschim, two in Lumbini and one in Province 2—are on ventilator support.”

Nepal on Tuesday reported 3,556 new cases and 18 deaths. The country on Monday had reported 4,047 new infections and nine Covid-19-related deaths compared to 22 deaths, the highest single-day Covid-19 fatalities, and 2,071 new infections on Sunday and 5,008 new infections, the highest single-day surge, and 14 deaths on Saturday.
