Kaski District Court extends custody of one arrested in connection with assault on doctors

The Kaski District Court on Tuesday extended the custody of a person arrested in connection with assault on medical personnel at Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital by seven days.
Police on Monday arrested 34-year-old Binay Gurung of Malepatan in Pokhara Metropolitan City on charges of assaulting a doctor.
Kaski District Police Office Spokesperson Shrawan Kumar BK informed that the court has granted a seven-day extension of Gurung’s custody to the police under the Security of the Health Workers and Health Organizations Act, 2066 (2010) (First Amendment).
Fifty-seven-year-old Sukamaya Dura had died while undergoing treatment at the Pokhara-based hospital on Monday. The relatives of the Lumjung local had physically assaulted doctors and medical staff following the incident.
Resident doctors and interns of Manipal have been protesting since Monday, while doctors from various medical institutes on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest at Maitighar Mandala against the assault.
Resident doctors and interns of hospitals across Pokhara have stopped providing services since Tuesday.
Earlier on September 17, the Nepal Medical Association had halted services at all hospitals across the country, except for emergency care in protest against the attacks on doctors in Hetauda.
