A tweet by Indian film maker Mahesh Bhatt making remarks about Gautam Buddha being born in India has sparked outrage on Twitter.
“Buddha was born in India but his teachings flowered in Japan. The spirit of Buddha is alive in Hiroshima Peace Museum,” Bhatt tweeted on Tuesday.
The tweet has been retweeted 130 times with the Nepali twitterati taking to the social networking platform to express their dissatisfaction.
@YatriAmit tweeted, “ What a straight lie. This is so unexpected from a man like you.”
Another user, @munneme tweeted, “Blindly supporting a lie isn’t wise. Doesn’t matter who it comes from. Wrong is wrong.”
Likewise, @sanjeev1974ad tweeted, “Considered you to be a learned filmmaker and I hope I am not wrong. Plz check your facts!”
The tweet continued to remain viral on Wednesday, with hundreds of Nepali twitter users responding to Bhatt with disappointment, sarcasm and even vitriol Bhatt, who is in Japan attending the India-Japan Co-operation Conference, has made no further comments about the tweet.
