Chhath concludes with worship of rising sun
Devotees end the four-day festival by offering arghya to the Sun God at rivers and ponds across the country.Post Report
Chhath, the festival wherein the rising and setting Sun God is worshipped, concluded on Tuesday morning.
The devotees who had been fasting since the first day of the festival (Kartik Shukla Panchami), offered arghya (offering of water) to the rising sun, marking the end of the four-day festival.
Celebrated mainly by people from the Mithila region, Chhath involves worshipping the sun and making offerings for the well-being, prosperity, and longevity of family members. Devotees prepare various delicacies as prasad while maintaining purity and cleanliness throughout the rituals.
A holy dip in rivers, strict fasting, and complete abstinence from even drinking water are central to the festival. With its conclusion, prasad is distributed among family members and well-wishers.
Although traditionally observed in the Tarai, Chhath has gained significance in Kathmandu in recent years.
