Relatives, well-wishers hold candlelight vigil for Gen Z protest victims
Mourners gathered in front of the parliament complex in New Baneshwar on Thursday to remember those killed in last month’s uprising.
Post Report
Relatives and well-wishers of those killed in police firing during last month’s uprising gathered in front of the Parliament complex in Kathmandu on Thursday for a candlelight vigil.
The mourners lit candles and placed flowers in memory of the victims. Many held photos of their loved ones, while others silently prayed for justice.
The New Baneshwar area, where the vigil was held, was the epicentre of the Gen Z protest that erupted last month, a demonstration that ended in violent clashes with security forces. Seventeen of the 19 protesters were killed in and around the parliament complex in police firing on September 8, triggering further violence and arson on the next day. The death toll of the Gen Z protests has now reached 75.
Here are some photos of the candlelight vigil taken by the Post’s photojournalist Hemanta Shrestha.
