Once a neglected wetland choked with invasive water hyacinth, Prabhas Lake in Palpa has transformed into a flourishing habitat for aquatic animals thanks to local youth and ward-led initiatives.
Led by Pradeep Khanal, now ward chairman of Tansen Musicality–7, the campaign cleared water hyacinth, helping lotus flowers bloom after a gap of nearly four years.
Locals, including Suresh Bohara and Asmita Pangeni, who once feared the lake’s decline, are now overjoyed at its restored beauty. The lake, now vibrant with aquatic plants and wildlife, is drawing more visitors and raising hopes for eco-tourism.
Experts say the area’s unique flora and fauna hold strong tourism potential. Division Forest Officer Narayandev Bhattarai believes the lake’s revival supports the ecosystem and the local economy.
