Deployment of election police begins ahead of polls
Around 150,000 personnel to be mobilised nationwide; 188,000 security personnel to ensure overall poll security.
Post Report
The security bodies on Tuesday began deploying around 150,000 election police personnel for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Under government-approved standards, election police will receive facilities equivalent to those of police constables. These include basic pay, uniform, ration allowance, travel allowance, refreshments during training and clothing expenses based on local weather conditions. All payments will be credited directly to their bank accounts.
The government has assured compensation in the event of injury or death during duty. However, those who fail to report to their assigned locations or abandon their duties will be denied all benefits. Appointments will be automatically cancelled if the election is called off or postponed.
The March 5 elections will elect 275 members to the House of Representatives, with 165 chosen through the first-past-the-post system and 110 under the proportional representation system.
For overall election security, around 188,000 personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department will be deployed nationwide.
