After nearly six months of dry weather, Taplejung district witnessed rainfall and heavy snowfall in higher-altitude regions. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s field office in Taplejung, the district headquarters Phungling recorded 8.5 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours as of 8:30 am on Saturday.

The heavy snowfall has affected areas in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, including Ghunsa (Ward 6) and Olangchung Gola (Ward 7), as well as the Pathibhara region.

Rajendra Mahat, an official from the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, reported that a thick layer of snow has accumulated from the upper base of Pathibhara at 3,100 metres to the temple located at 3,800 metres.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation as the snow continues to disrupt daily life in the region.
