Post Report
Democracy Day was celebrated with a special ceremony at the Nepal Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on Wednesday.
The event featured the national anthem, flag hoisting, and a moment of silence in honour of martyrs. A Nepal Army helicopter displayed a banner inscribed with “Democracy Day 2081” and showered flowers while colourful balloons were released. Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Scouts performed a march-past and band display.
Cultural performances, including lakhey dance and Taekwondo demonstrations, were presented on behalf of various municipalities in Kathmandu Valley.
President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, deputy prime ministers, ministers, lawmakers, heads of constitutional bodies, senior government officials, and diplomatic representatives attended the ceremony.
The day commemorates democracy that was established in the country on Fagun 7, 2007 BS [February 18, 1951], after overthrowing the 104-year-long Rana oligarchy. The government declared Wednesday as a public holiday to mark the occasion.
