Traffic police have started mobilising rule violators as volunteers to assist in managing Kathmandu’s chaotic traffic. The move follows a direction from Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said offenders booked for four violations, including drunk driving, have been deployed as volunteers.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, said those caught drunk driving, violating lane rules, driving through red lights, and overspeeding have been deployed as volunteers.
Here are some photos captured by the Post’s photojournalist Angad Dhakal, showing the volunteers in action.
