The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has banned roadside parking in the New Road area from Tuesday.
According to the metropolis, the decision was taken to ease the movement of people in the busy marketplace.
The city office said it had arranged a free parking facility at the under-construction Kathmandu Tower where 300 four-wheelers and 700 two-wheelers could be parked.
Traders in the area protested the decision in the morning by closing all shops.
Earlier, the metropolis had barred roadside parking in New Baneshwar, Bagbazar and Durbar Marg among other areas.
