Conflict victims on Friday took out a rally in Kathmandu demanding to amend the transitional justice bill currently under consideration in Parliament.
They assembled in front of the Kathmandu District Court and demonstrated, urging the authorities concerned to endorse the bill after rectifying ‘flawed’ provisions.
The protesters carried placards with slogans: ‘Stop political interference in the judicial processes and ‘End impunity: Ensure the right to truth, justice and redress’ among others.
The bill to amend the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act tabled by the government on March 19 is currently under consideration in the Parliament.
The bill has listed ‘cruel murder’ or murder after torture, rape, enforced disappearances and inhuman and cruel torture as serious rights violations. But ‘murder’ is just a human rights violation, therefore it qualifies for amnesty, according to the bill.
Here are some photos of the protest the Post photojournalist Keshav Thapa captured.
