Civil society organises protest against use of concrete materials in Kamal Pokhari restoration projectA scuffle broke out as the police prevented the protesters from removing a concrete structure constructed in the middle of the historic pond.
Civil Society members and heritage enthusiasts, under the banner of Brihat Nagarik Andolan, on Friday organised a rally to protest the use of modern concrete materials in the restoration project of the historic Kamal Pokhari.
The protesters marched to the site of the historic pond and tried to dismantle a concrete structure that is under construction in the middle of the pond.
However, the police prevented the protesters from carrying out the removal.
The Kamal Pokhari restoration project is already facing criticism for disregarding the sustainable preservation aspects and plans to turn the historic pond into a recreational space.
Earlier, in January, heritage lovers had raised alarm after an excavator was captured in a video digging up soil from the bed of the historic pond, which has been drained out for restoration.
