The final rites of Rastra Kavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire were performed with full state honours at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

A contingent of the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force offered final tribute to the poet who died on Tuesday.

Born on September 23, 1919, in Lamjung, Ghimire is well known for his literary works such as Manjari, Gauri, Malati Mangale, Himal Pari Himal Wari, Rajeshwori, Indrakumari, Rastra Nirmata, Kinnar-Kinnari, Charu Charcha, and Aafno Bansuri Aafnai Geet, among others.

The title of Rashtra Kavi was conferred on him by the government of Nepal in 2003.
