The Nepali Congress (NC) staged protest rallies and demonstrations across the country against the government on Monday. The main opposition party said the government’srecent activities were against the interest of public.

The party said that the protest rallies were organised in all 77 districts of the country against ‘state terror’, unconstitutional step of the government, corruption, rising incidents of rape and crime, excessive rise in price, tax burden and bad governance.

A Central Committee meeting of NC on January 27 had decided to organise demonstrations against the government’s apathy towards Dr Govinda KC’s demands, and the authoritarian tendency shown by bulldozing the National Medical Education Bill through the parliament. The Party’s youth organisation Nepal StudentUnion had been organising protest programmes since then.
