‘Won’t end fast until demands met’
Dr Govinda KC on Sunday said he would not end his fast until the government addresses him demands for reforms in the country’s medical education sector.Dr Govinda KC on Sunday said he would not end his fast until the government addresses him demands for reforms in the country’s medical education sector.
Speaking during a press meet organised in the room of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital where he has been staging the fast for the past eight days, Dr KC accused the TU authorities of deliberately appointing a dean who is not the senior most of the nominees.
Dr KP Singh was appointed the dean bypassing Dr JP Agrawal, a candidate recommended for the position who is a senior professor to the former.
“KP Singh is my friend. But being a friend and principal of the organisation are different things. We are fighting to set an example and such personal relationship will never be a hindrance,” said Dr KC.
Apart from the appointment of dean based on seniority, Dr KC has demanded that the government should implement the fee structure proposed by the Mathema Commission. Its report has set Rs3.5 million as fees for the MBBS programme and Rs1.8 million for a dental programme. “The government has not come up with any concrete proposal to address the demands,” said Dr KC.
