Maoist Centre to discuss ‘govt change’ today
The CPN (Maoist Centre) has extended the party’s politburo meeting by one more day to debate on the proposal of government change. The CPN (Maoist Centre) has extended the party’s politburo meeting by one more day to debate on the proposal of government change.
The decision was made after “some new agendas”dominated Wednesday’s meeting. The party was scheduled to hold discussions on the political issues, including the government change.
“The meeting delved into party’s internal guidelines, human trafficking scandal and disciplinary issues,” said Pampha Bhusal, spokesperson for the centre.
The party will discuss on the proposal endorsed through its central committee in a meeting on Thursday. On Saturday, the party had decided to remain open to idea of the majority government based on the agendas if no consensus could be reached on its initiative to form a national unity government.
The Maoist leadership, which last week decided to explore the possibility of a majority government with the Nepali Congress, however, remains reluctant to take any concrete decision.
Party leaders have also ruled out the possibility of immediately withdrawing support to the government—a precondition put forth by the NC for further negotiations on the new power sharing. Some Maoist leaders said that the party leadership had backtracked on its initial thought after getting hints that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was considering extending support to the NC if he was forced to step down from the government. Many UML leaders have said that the UML would join hands with the NC if the Maoists pull out from the government.
